CERERIA ABELLA
Abella, in Catalan, means bee and is the surname of a woman. Abella is also the name of a village, on the top of a mountain pierced by a river, which some say is so called because its houses are like a beehive perched on the rock.
This is the landscape of Pallars that Francesca Abella left behind to go to Barcelona and found a candleshop in the Raval district. There she began an adventure that, five generations and a century and a half later, still continues.
IN THE HEART OF THE RAVAL
Many things have changed since then: there is light without candles at night, the beeswax is no longer bleached in the sun and we no longer manufacture in the Raval, but in Cerabella (Sentmenat), just half an hour away from Barcelona. At the same counter where Francesca weighed wax, we now gift-wrap the scented candles for you. And on the shelves where the dipped candles were placed, you will find today the latest proposals in design and author candles.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DESIGN
Before electricity came to many houses in Barcelona, when night fell and you had to arrive home safe, the night watchman would give you a little piece of waxed lit match to light the stair steps to your door. Candles were useful and absolutely necessary.
With the passing of time, our natural tendency for creativity and the love for beautiful things have modified the purpose of all the candles made in Cerabella. Preserving the legacy of a millenary craft, now we are also moved by the research of new forms, new uses and new concepts: scented candles to create evocative atmospheres; outdoor candles to illuminate parties alfresco; citronella scented candles for gardens or signature candles designed by creators from the most diverse fields.
The possibilities are so many and so inspiring that it’s hard to stop exploring!

Of course, then as now, each piece is unique. All candles are artisanal, handmade, by people who know the craft and who devote their time and dedication to their manufacture. We love this part of our profession, which is linked to the ancient know-how of the artisan master. A craft marked by the slow time of handmade candles, created by people for people.
